The mother of music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards has claimed her son died as a result of taking recreational drugs. Loose Women presenter Brenda Edwards made the announcement that her son died due to “cardiac arrhythmia caused by having taken recreational drugs," on social media on Tuesday after an inquest into his death was held at West London Coroner’s Court. Jamal Edwards Was born on August 1990 – and died on 20 February 2022 was a British entrepreneur, author, director, DJ and founder of the online urban music platform SB.TV. He was born in Luton, England, and spent his early years there before moving to Acton, West London, where he lived with his mother Brenda, his stepfather, Patrick, and his younger sister, Tanisha.Edwards' family originate from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. As a child he was introduced to stage school by his mother Brenda Edwards, who came fourth in the second series of The X Factor. His mother wanted him to pursue acting and drama, however he aspired to be successful in the music industry.He attended Acton High School and enjoyed subjects ICT and music. However, he struggled to attain the grades he needed for college, and as a result, had to study for an extra year. He then attended Ealing Green College, part of West London College, where he received a BTEC Diploma in Media Moving Image.During his school years, he started rapping and would film videos with his friends that would then be posted on YouTube. These videos would eventually become his business and the beginning of SBTV.Edwards worked the retail chain Topman for 4 years whilst he ran SBTV in order to financially support himself. In 2014, Edwards helped launch the Queen's Young Leaders Programme with an image of Edwards, Prince William and Prince Harry captured by a Twitter mirror. Edwards also worked to raise awareness surrounding mental health. In March 2017, he made a documentary with The Guardian about male suicide where he spoke to his childhood friends who suffer with mental health.Later that year, Edwards continued his work and explored mental health in the music industry. Edwards was open about his own struggles, stating in an interview with Music Week: 'Anxiety comes over me at the most random times. I wanted to create awareness. As much as music is my entry point, I feel a responsibility to talk about these other issues. I wanted to get people talking to each other and they have been, I'm happy." Music mogul Jamal Edwards' died from a 'sudden heart attack' at the home he shared with his mother after DJing the night before, his heartbroken friends claimed today. The YouTube star, 31, passed away on Sunday morning at the address in Acton, west London, after performing at Bubba Oasis in Angel on Saturday night. His friends said relatives had told them he was found by his mother, who called London Ambulance Service who dispatched two paramedics but could not save him. A coroner has found music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards died after taking cocaine mixed with alcohol. The YouTube star died in February this year, at the age of 31. Assistant coroner Ivor Collett says the cause of death was cardio arrhythmia sparked by cocaine use. BBC reporter Thomas Magill sent this report from the inquest.
